Proposition - This morning we are going to learn about: 1) the comforting of the angel, 2) the message of the angel, and 3) the instructions from the angel.
Interrogative question - How have you responded to the great announcement?
Imperative commands - (5 commands in these verses)
vs. 5 - “Afraid...”
vs. 6 - “See...”
Vs. 7 - “Tell....”, “Behold...”, and “Behold...”

1. The Comforting of the Angel - vs. 5

Matthew 28:5 NASB95
5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified.
What has the angel done in the previous verses?
What might you have done if you were in the Mary’s shoes?
Why do you think that the Angel gives an imperative command?
How did the Angel know what the Mary’s were doing?

2. The Message of the Angel - vs. 6

Matthew 28:6 NASB95
6 “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.
How do you think that the Mary’s might have responded to the news “He is not here…?”
What might have been going through their heads?
Matthew 12:40 NASB95
40 for just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Matthew 16:21 NASB95
21 From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day.
Matthew 17:23 NASB95
23 and they will kill Him, and He will be raised on the third day.” And they were deeply grieved.
Matthew 20:19 NASB95
19 and will hand Him over to the Gentiles to mock and scourge and crucify Him, and on the third day He will be raised up.”
Matthew 5:18 NASB95
18 “For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
Matthew 26:54–56 NASB95
54 “How then will the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must happen this way?” 55 At that time Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as you would against a robber? Every day I used to sit in the temple teaching and you did not seize Me. 56 “But all this has taken place to fulfill the Scriptures of the prophets.” Then all the disciples left Him and fled.

3. The Instructions from the Angel - vs. 7-8

Matthew 28:7–8 NASB95
7 “Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.” 8 And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples.
What did the angel tell them to do?
Do you think that the Mary’s were in shock?
What did the Angel tell them to do?
Harmony of the Gospels Sec. 171: Early Sunday Morning

There are three important things to believe about the resurrection of Jesus according to the Church Fathers. One is numerical identity: the same body that went into the tomb came out three days later. Two is materiality: it was a material, fleshly body that was raised from the dead. Three is historicity: it really happened in history.

SO WHAT?
How have you responded to the great announcement?
